Adopting a Pet from Animal Friends Niigata
Adopting a new dog or cat is like a marriage. We want it to be successful and to be a life-long partnership. To ensure its success we need to know as much as possible about each individual/family’s needs and lifestyle so that we can recommend the best possible match. In order to do this we ask you to fill out our questionnaire.
For this reason, the following points are important for you to consider:
1.Experience and knowledge of animals, their behavior, needs, habits, comforts, food,
health and exercise is a necessity.
2.Do you have enough space, time and money to care for an animal?
3.Are you allowed to keep an animal? Is there likely to be trouble with neighbors?
4.Are you able to make a long-term commitment to this animal?
All the animals are handled and walked regularly, so they are accustomed to people.
They have been vaccinated and are healthy. If a dog or cat has a health condition,
disorder, or a behavioral problem we will inform the potential owner.
It is better to adopt and adult dog or cat rather than puppies or kittens for the following reasons
1.Puppies and kittens need special care and can easily get sick.
2.Puppies and kittens need a lot of your time in the first critical few months in order to
become socialized and get a full range of experiences.
3.Puppies and kittens are only small for a short time and grow into adults within 6 months.
It can be difficult to know how big a puppy will become and what a dogs’ or cats’ personality will be like.
Conditions of Adoption
1.No dog should be chained, all animals need a week or two to adjust to their new surroundings.
Special care must be taken for this period to make sure the animals don’t get out or run away.
2.We hope that the dog can live in the house as one of the family.
3.Make sure your telephone number tag is on the pet’s collar and that you have a photo of your pet.
Walking different routes everyday enables the dog to identify his/her way home.
4.Cats should be kept inside in order to prevent the transmittance of disease and accidents.
5.We charge 10,000 Yen for a male and 15,000 Yen for a female as an adoption fee,
which includes the cost of health checks and neutering.
Where animals are not already neutered, we ask the new owners to do so.
We will then return part of the adoptions fee (5,000 Yen for a male and 10,000 Yen for a female).
Vaccinations will be charged, at cost, separately.
Animal Friend Niigata’s policy is to promote neutering in order to decrease the number of unwanted dogs and cats.
All the animals at Animal Friends Niigata are strays or have been abandoned. Some have had bad experiences and
have been ill -treated. It is especially important that they have a happy secure life in the future.
